FarmPixie is a free marketplace connecting consumers with local farms, homesteads, farmstands, and ranches across the United States. Sellers can list products ranging from raw vegetables and dairy to cottage kitchen goods and livestock, post recurring events like U-pick days and farm tours, and communicate directly with buyers — all without any platform fees or transaction processing.

The platform is built on Laravel and PostgreSQL, with a hybrid Blade & React architecture that keeps server-rendered HTML for SEO and fast initial loads while mounting interactive "islands" only where needed. Real-time messaging is powered by Laravel Reverb WebSockets, with all message content encrypted at rest. A multi-step onboarding wizard guides new producers through profile and product creation before committing anything to the database.

Discovery is central to the experience. Location-aware search combines PostgreSQL full-text search with the earthdistance extension for proximity queries, and a road trip planner uses angular density analysis alongside the Google Routes API to build optimized farm-hopping itineraries. Uploaded images pass through Google Cloud Vision's SafeSearch before being stored across a three-size conversion pipeline on S3-compatible CDN storage. The admin panel, built with Filament, handles user management, content moderation, and producer oversight.

FarmPixie is a passion project built alongside owner Kim Kenney and designer Mallory Evans, and we're genuinely excited to watch it grow into something meaningful for local communities.
